Abstract

The article presents a theoretical analysis of the study of the problem of identity in both foreign and domestic psychology. Self-attitude is defined as a specific, stable attitude of a person to his own «I», which is manifested in the personal, emotional, social and behavioral spheres of life.
It is noted that the phenomenon of self-attribution is inextricably linked with the formation of personality as a subject’s real self-awareness. The problem of the formation of self-esteem and its connection with academic performance in young people is considered. The main defining characteristics of self-esteem in youth are revealed. It was concluded that self-esteem determines social behavior, affects the success of any activity and personal self-realization of a person.
The works of such scientists as O. Kaminska, A. Myroshnychenko, T. Slabko, K. Khomenko, R. Burns, U. James, K. Rogers, M. Rosenberg, and D. Hatti are considered. Diagnostics was carried out to determine the characteristics of self-identification of persons of youth age. The results of an empirical study, which included research using the «Self-Assessment Study» method by S. Pantileev and V. Stolin, students of the third year of study at the Communal Institution of Higher Education «Vinnytsia Humanitarian and Pedagogical College», are given. According to the conducted statistical analysis, it was found that individuals of youthful age with different levels of personal success have individual psychological features of self-attitude.
A theoretical-applied study of the problem of self-identification in youth showed that this very phenomenon acts as a decisive component of the formation of a person’s «I», which affects both personal traits and goals, behavior, activities, etc. Corrective measures for improving the self-esteem of adolescents are proposed, which can be used by teachers and psychologists.
