Abstract

The study examines the concept of emotional intelligence and approaches to its study in modern psychology, and also examines the development of emotional intelligence of Ukrainian teenagers during the period of social upheaval. The context of the first social situation is related to the restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The second context is with the state of war in Ukraine and its consequences for every inhabitant of the country due to the war.
At the first stage of the empirical research, with the help of psychological methods, the authors identified and analyzed individually the psychological qualities and characteristics of the emotional intelligence of adolescents. At the second stage of the research, a cycle of classes on the formation of EI development using modern psychological technologies was developed and conducted. The purpose of the author’s training «This Mysterious World of Emotions» was to acquaint the participants with basic and complex emotions, mastering self-regulation techniques, assessing the current psychoemotional state and managing it, forming skills to control one’s own emotions and develop emotional interaction with others. Also, attention was paid to practical methods of correcting the emotional state in the conditions of social upheavals in Ukraine.
At the third stage, a control study was conducted using psychological methods. His results demonstrate that statistically significant positive changes in adolescents occurred in terms of parameters: emotional stability, moral norms, intrapersonal EI, understanding of own and others’ emotions. A higher level of recognition of such emotions as joy, despair and surprise was noted. For the development of the components of emotional intelligence listed above, coaching technologies, MAK cards, etc. were used.
