Development of the psychological service of the oncology clinic as an impotent component of the process of treatment and rehabilitation of people with oncology

Abstract

This article is devoted to the problems of providing psychosocial assistance to persons with oncology in wartime conditions in Ukraine. Statistical data of pre-war cancer registers are given. The main characteristics of the emotional state of people with oncology are described, taking into account the conditions of military operations on the territory of the state. The article presents examples of the practical use of emotional state screenings, which are recommended by the NCCN in the work of the psychological direction with the distress of patients with an oncodiagnosis. The current state of providing psychosocial assistance and support in the regions of Ukraine is described. The importance of organizing the work of this direction as a component of the implementation of the general program to support the mental health of Ukrainians during the war, initiated by the first lady Olena Zelenska, was also emphasized. The importance of the organization of work in the oncology clinic in three main directions is indicated: with the patient itself, with his immediate environment (family, relatives) and with the staff of the medical institution that provides treatment and rehabilitation services in oncology.
The author emphasizes the importance and demand for the development of cancer rehabilitation in the country, as well as the creation at the state level in the conditions of oncology hospitals, centers, clinics of a specialized department of psychosocial care and support, the main task of which will be psychological, diagnostic, correctional, psychoeducational work and consultative and practical socially oriented help .
The results of work on screenings of the emotional state of patients will become scientific evidence to support the integration of psychological and social care into the usual and affordable care in oncology. After identifying the unmet needs of patients, oncology facilities can provide appropriate psychosocial support to improve quality of life. On this basis, it is planned to conduct further interventional studies of psycho-oncology for people with cancer in order to develop a comprehensive treatment of this pathology and appropriate protocols for psychological rehabilitation interventions in oncology. So, the main directions of further research with the aim of forming protocols of psychosocial interventions in the process of treatment and rehabilitation of people with oncology have been determined.
